Ancient Tomes Change Baja Life
by Amairgen of the Mystic Order of RoR
(Reported to Stratics many years ago)
On Buccaneer’s Den during a recent meeting of mysterious nature, three ancient tomes were presented to Adian O’Rourke (Rangers of the Realm).
The full meaning and interpretation of these tomes is not fully complete as they have been inscribed using an uncommon dialect of the Elven language.
Enough of the deciphering has however been done and verified to reveal that an ancient island known as Arnk existed (may still exist), which was home to the original clan of all Rangers in the land. Also revealed is the fact that this clan was comprised of both Elven and Human members.
Much is still to be discovered. What caused this island to become unknown? What caused the ancient Ranger clan to disband spreading their off spring and bloodline throughout Britannia?
The strange man who delivered the tomes to Adian O’Rourke hinted that certain members of RoR were direct descendants. This appears to be the reason RoR was the chosen recipient of the tomes.
While the interpretation of the tomes will continue with the consultation of Britannia’s scholars,
the implications are already having an impact on Baja’s future.
The Rangers of Spiritwood (one of Baja’s oldest guilds) have reviewed the findings to date. They have become convinced that the Rangers of the Realm are the true inheritors of Ranger Lore, and the direct descendants of the ancient clan.
The Rangers of Spiritwood (RoS) have now cast down their stone and become members of the Rangers of the Realm (RoR) in support of the new knowledge.
This is a time of rejoicing among all rangers! History is being unveiled and the future path of rangers may soon be clear. The knowledge gained will benefit every ranger in the land as Ranger clans cooperate and share their proud heritage. The details as we know then and the translations are shown below.

PRELUDE
In a past time now long forgotten, there existed a land of peace and harmony. This land was in fact an island and to the inhabitants it was known as the Isle of Arnk.
On this Isle dwelt a great Seer know simply as the Seer of Arnk. She was a woman of timeless beauty, ageless wisdom and the ability to look into the past as well as foretell things that might one day occur.
I, Eldwin Carmi of Arnk, am from the lineage of Percis Carmi of Arnk and a heritage of which I am not proud. I have attended to the Seer of Arnk through the past nine years. In penance for weakness of forefathers and the shame of my family, I set down for you these words spoken to me by the Seer herself. These words come in three parts and tell "The Story of Arnk".
FIRST TOME - THE TIME THAT WAS
Long ago, the lands of Arnk were inhabited by many large families who worked in honest labor and held the land in reverence. These folk were rangers who tread respectfully in the forests with consideration for nature and the force in all living things.
Some families were Human, some were Elven and some were of mixed parentage. This mattered not as all lived in harmony holding respect and understanding for each other.
The head of each family held a seat on the Rangers of Arnk council which operated in a democratic fashion to resolve disputes and troubles as they arose in the land.
This council was led by Rynmin O’Rourke who at the time was the head of the largest family in Arnk. Rynmin was long respected as a wise and fair man. He possessed the natural leadership skills that spawn loyalty and trust within the hearts of others.
In Rynmin’s wisdom he had formed a strong alliance with the Seer of Arnk who gave insight and sage advice that was passed to the council for consideration. The times were good and none could imagine a life more fulfilled.
One day the sun rose behind dark clouds and a chill mist spread across the land. It was soon learned that Rynmin O’Rourke had been murdered in his sleep and the Seer of Arnk had been physically taken from her home.
Terrible things began to occur. The livestock of one family were poisoned, another’s barns were burned and yet another lost their harvest to thieves. In every case the culprits were not apparent ‘tho traces left behind always pointed to a neighboring family.
The council met but adjourned in disarray. With no leadership and such despair, they could make no resolve. In fact things became worse.
Eventually families began to leave the Isle of Arnk. They preferred to leave everything behind and go, rather than wait for misfortune to find them again. Trusting no one they left in the night leaving no word of their plans or destinations. Such was the grief and pain in their hearts, they vowed never to speak again of Arnk or the homes they left behind.
The time of harmony on Arnk had come to an end.
I can tell it now ‘tho it gives me little pride, that the Seer of Arnk was taken to a secret place.
She was kidnapped by the minions of evil and those of Arnk who embraced the evil rather than oppose. My long deceased forefather Percis Carmi was one of those.
The Seer of Arnk is held today in a cavern of evil where she has lived since her capture.
I am but one of many compelled to guard her but I alone am filled with the guilt of the great wrong that has been done.
The Seer being able to see all things past and all things possible, instructed me to set down this history and her visions in the language known by the Rangers of Arnk.
The completed Tomes have been entrusted to me to have delivered to the eldest living offspring of the great chieftain of the rangers of Arnk. These are to be a guide to the descendants of all rangers of Arnk in the certain hope of a better day.
SECOND TOME - THE TIME THAT IS
The descendants of the rangers of Arnk will be scattered throughout Britannia.
For the most part they will survive and deal proudly with the struggles that cross their paths. All will feel a greater purpose but lacking knowledge of the past will be unclear in which direction to place their focus. None will be aware of Arnk or the proud ranger heritage that is rightfully theirs.
Some will formed new ranger clans.
Some will be drawn into ranger clans formed by others.
Most - will lead solitary lives.
In true ranger fashion they will possess natural talents in the woodlands and acquired skills in the production of highly sought goods. They will be able to provide the basic comforts for themselves and their families. All this if left in peace.
Like many folk in Britannia these rangers will be pushed from place to place. In some cases they will be driven out by uneducated village idiots and vile killers of people. Even the supposed guardians of Britannia, the forces of Lord Britain, will dispense overly harsh a treatment on the less fortunate.
The safer haven promised in a newer land called Trammel will draw many. The dream of finding homesteads there will keep ranger spirits high. Always they will look ahead with hope never knowing that the future lies in knowing the past.
The force of evil is strong and extends its’ reach even to Britannia and the dark powers will stop at nothing to prevent a rebirth of the ancient ranger clan.
The lands of Britannia are large. The search for the eldest living offspring of Rynmin O’Rourke will be long and fraught with peril. This search should be confined to the ranger clans that have formed, for the seed of Rynmin O’Rourke is strong and the skills of leadership will surface throughout his line. Look first, among the heads of clan.
THIRD TOME - THE TIME THAT MAY BE
These Tomes will someday find their home. What price is paid to see that day I cannot say.
To you, the blood of Rynmin O’Rourke, I say this.
The yolk of leadership is heavy but the reward for guiding good folk has no bounds. Be easy in your heart and clear in your mind for your destiny in will not be denied. You could no more walk from this than smite your first born child.
If you succeed is not known to me yet but the path to triumph is clear. These things you must achieve and if not will perish in the attempt.
Establish a new ranger stronghold in a secure land.
Reunite the blood of Arnk.
Embrace all who would be rangers and be loyal to the way of Arnk.
Locate the Isle of Arnk and the cavern which holds me from my home.
Find the secret held by the dark powers which will free me to guide you further.
Drive the evil grip from Arnk bringing forth the light that shone in the past.
Lead all rangers who would fight united, against the evil in Feluccia.
To you, descendants Arnk, I say this.
Follow the line of Rynmin O’Rourke. This will be the path to your true home and the realization of the great heritage that is yours.
To you, all who are or would be rangers, I say this.
Follow the line of Rynmin O’Rourke and embrace the blood of Arnk. This will fill your heart and earn equal share in fortune for yourself and secure a future for your children yet unborn.
