The forest looked as though it would devour me, I tell thee! Had it not been for [glow=red,2,300]Bloodwing[/glow] staying close by my side, I promise thee, I would not be here retelling my tale. Alas, I do hurry myself. Allow me to regroup and begin at the beginning...
The day began as any other. I awoke and donned my hunting attire, then went to the stables to care for my adoring pets. Whipser, the unicorn, neighed softly and nuzzled my hand. I knew I would be in dangerous territories this day and I did not wish to endanger her life...again. I spoke softly to her and told her what my plans were for the day. She nodded, brayed softly, and nipped at my hands in farewell. Next, I visited [glow=red,2,300]Bloodwing[/glow], the red drake. 'Twas he I would summon from his place in the stables this day. 'Twould be he who would taste the thrill of adventure and flesh of our advesaries. As I approached, I sopke to him so he would not suddenly turn upon me. Ecstatic to see me, he began to rear happily. I smiled, tossed him a few raw cuts of meat, then loosed him and called him to my side.
We bid farewell to Whisper and headed out of Trinsic towards the moongate. Our first destination would be Umbra to visit my dearly beloved and bid him safety for his day. Using my substandard powers of Magery, I Recalled us to my love's abode, discovering he had changed the design yet again. Chuckling to myself, I called up to see if he was home. My heart sank as I discovered he was not there. So, [glow=red,2,300]Bloodwing[/glow] and I set out on our journey, seeking adventure. We decided we would face the dungeon many fear--the Dungeon of Doom.
Quickly, I consulted my rune books for a rune to the formiddable place and having found one, spoke the incantation and marvelled as we apparated to the location of the main enterance. Smiling to [glow=red,2,300]Bloodwing[/glow], he roared a bit and began to anxiously claw at the ground. He must have disturbed a grave or two, for Skeletons began to plague us! Fortunately, he is a large, strong creature! He made short work of the skeletons (and what few vampire bats decided to join in the fray). We began our descent into the dungeon.
What happened next is difficult to say. Rotting Corpses, Lich Lords, Skeletons, and a Devourer of Souls descended upon us. Willingly walking into what would be our deaths, we were--and we unwittingly pressed forward. [glow=red,2,300]Bloodwing[/glow] fought valiantly, but, alas! There were too many! Quickly, I called my beloved Drake to my side and, speaking the incantation again, disapperated rather quickly.
Apparating is not an exact science, I have discovered. Even if one does have a correctly marked rune and one does use it correctly, one may find one's self in a rather--unfriendly place.
[glow=red,2,300]Bloodwing[/glow] and I must have walked for hours. We were searching for any sign of the Trinsic Annex--a rune library currently under construction--but, it would be to no avail. As we plodded along the pathway, night fell and a storm blew in off the coast. I was shivering from being wet and cold. I thought I should simply lay down and allow nature to run its course. But [glow=red,2,300]Bloodwing[/glow] seemed to possess a much different idea. Nudging me with his nose, he pushed me closer to his large, scaly body and outstretched his wing to shield me from the torrents that came showering down from the heavens. I smiled to think that he would do such a thing for his Mistress.
Just when I was about to give up and build a campfire, I saw someone approaching on horseback. I smiled and waved, but the archer released an arrow which wounded my left shoulder. That, my friends, was not a smart decision. [glow=red,2,300]Bloodwing[/glow] took somewhat of a personal offense to the attack and attacked the man, making short work of him. I called the drake to my side once more and we hurriedly made for a moongate. Upon arriving at the nearest one, I discovered it to have pink glow rather than a blue one. That is when I realized I was not on Trammel any more and we--[glow=red,2,300]Bloodwing[/glow] and I--should make a ready exit.
Unfortunately, the vile murderer who had injured me had found a forgiving healer who worked his magick and restored the villan to life and health. And he was coming back.
"Quick, Bloodwing!" I spoke to the drake. "Hurry! Through this gate! We must go to Trammel or Malas!" I felt another arrow hit my armor--and another--another still, only this one sunk deeply into the back of my left shoulder. [glow=red,2,300]Bloodwing[/glow] roared and turned to charge, I called him to me as I stepped through the gates to Malas. Of course, the murderer could not know to whence we ran, but his arrow did strike true and followed me. Penetrating my armor from the back, the arrow was lodged dangerously close to my heart. I could feel the life ebbing from me. I fumbled in my pack. I found my runebook and breathlessly spoke the incantation.
That is how [glow=red,2,300]Bloodwing[/glow] and I did arrive here. That is how I came to have three arrows protruding from my left side...and that...is why I collapse here before you now--to rest and recorver from one dark and stormy night.
